SYMBOLS - JELEK
I APPROACHED THE PROJECT FROM A DESIGN GRAPHIC PERSPECTIVE. BY INCORPORATING THE ELEMENTS OF CLASSICAL PHOTOGRAPHY (USING BLACK AND WHITE IMAGES), BUT TO A LARGE EXTENT, I DEVELOPED AN EXPERIMENTAL PHOTOBOOK. MY GOAL WAS NOT TO DOCUMENT THE CAPTURED IMAGES, BUT RATHER TO VISUALIZE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMOTIONS AND MEMORIES.
THE TOPIC IS THE SUBJECT MATTER OF MY IMMEDIATE ENVIRONMENT, AVOIDING HUMAN AND LANDSCAPE PORTRAYALS. NEVERTHELESS, IT IS POWERFULLY EMOTIONAL BECAUSE IT CONTAINS MEMORIES OF MY OWN LIFE. IT IS CONCERNED WITH THE PERSONAL STORY, THE TRACE AND THE REMEMBRANCE, NOT THE ACTUAL REPRESENTATION OF THE OBJECT, SO IN MANY CASES THE IMAGE OF THE IMAGE ITSELF CANNOT BE INTERPRETED AND ITS MEANING DEPENDS ON THE CONTEXT.
THE STARTING POINT OF THE CONCEPT, THE OBJECTS AROUND ME, WHOSE SHAPE AND TEXTURE I WAS OBSERVING, I TRIED TO CREATE A REDUCED FORM. MY GOAL IS TO COLLECT GRAPHIC SIGNALS TRANSMITTED BY MY ENVIRONMENT. EACH OBJECT HAS A CHARACTERISTIC MOTIF, ALL OF WHICH HAVE INFLUENCED ME.
SOME PICTURE IS ALMOST DISTURBINGLY LARGE, BUT EACH HAS A DECISIVE, INFLUENTIAL FORCE. I CONSIDER IT IMPORTANT TO PRESENT ALL FOUR LOCATIONS IN MY CURRENT LIFE, ( PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS, STUDENT HOSTEL AND FLAT), SO I MADE AN ATTEMPT TO VISUALIZE THE LOCATIONS, THE CONNECTING ELEMENT OF THEM WHICH IS MYSELF.
