The base of my graduation project is the vision of a manufacturing ecosystem which uses the 3D printing technology in mass producton. More localised production units with large scale printers could cause flexible supply chain management and less need of logistics.
I will show the opportunities of this vision through the design process of a funiture collection optimized to a high volume industrial 3D printer. The collection contains a chair, a bench, a stool and also a table. All of them are generated by one algorythm so every changes in the parameters have an effect on every piece.
The adventage of this design approach is that I can make iterations very quickly during the developement process. All the test piece was printed in the final scale, with the final material and by using the final technology.
My production partner was the 3D Makers Zone innovation hub. The robotic arm 3D printer was developed by themself which is using fiber glass reinforced polipropilen, or PetG material. These filaments are totally recyclable and we are capable of extruding our own materialt to manufacture the funiture in a sustainable way.
